Knowledge matters
when people can use it.

Teaching, partnerships, institutional leadership, and public scholarship extend the reach of my research.

Connecting academic expertise
with real-world needs.

As Associate Professor of Physiology at IMU University and Deputy Director for Consultancy, Laboratory Services, and Business Development at IRDI, I connect research expertise with opportunities for collaboration and responsible innovation.

For industry and public-sector partners, our conversation can begin with a practical question: what evidence, expertise, or research partnership would help you move forward?

POLICY COLLABORATION

Evidence for decisions that include overlooked needs

I welcome work with ministries, public agencies, funders, and patient organisations on ethical research priorities, evidence gaps, genomic governance, and climate adaptation. My experience includes Malaysia’s 13th Malaysia Plan Health Research Priorities and WHO/GFBR discussions on ethical priority-setting.

Consultancy & partnerships

I welcome discussions on research ethics, evidence synthesis, ethical priority-setting, and research translation. My experience brings scientific, governance, and implementation perspectives to complex research questions.

Through IRDI, I help connect industry enquiries with relevant academic expertise, laboratory services, consultancy, and contract-research capabilities. A discussion can start with the evidence you need, the intended application, and the expertise required. Institutional projects proceed through IMU feasibility, contracting, and governance processes.

Leadership & responsible innovation

At IRDI, I oversee consultancy, laboratory services, and business development. My work includes strengthening support for research translation, intellectual property, partnerships, and commercialisation.

I co-chair IMU University’s Intellectual Property Committee and contributed to developing the IMU–MOH Clinical Trial Unit at Klinik Kesihatan Seremban. My work connects study feasibility, research governance, and industry engagement. In September 2026, I organised an innovation, intellectual property, and commercialisation workshop to develop service workflows and implementation priorities.

Teaching, mentoring & capacity building

My teaching spans physiology, human genetics, research methodology, evidence-based healthcare, and medical and research ethics. I have supervised and co-supervised projects across molecular genetics, rare disorders, evidence synthesis, and research ethics.

I also contribute as a Cochrane author, trainer, and reviewer, and support capacity building in systematic review methods and scientific writing.

Public & community engagement

Since 2014, I have led Cochrane Malaysia’s Bahasa Malaysia Translation Project, helping make research evidence accessible to Malay-speaking communities.

My broader public scholarship includes writing and commentary on rare diseases, genetics, ethics, and evidence-based health policy. I received The Conversation Indonesia’s Author of the Year Award in 2021.

I serve on the Medical Advisory Board of Spinal Muscular Atrophy Malaysia. I have accepted a Medical Advisor appointment for 21 September 2026–21 September 2028, and have contributed to the Rare Diseases International / Global Network for Rare Diseases Care Pathway Review Group (2025–2026).
